CPU Fan/Heatsink with P5N-D

  • Hello all. I've had this new build for about a week, and I noticed that the temp during Prime95 testing raises the CPU temp to the high 70's low 80's. I am using the stock heatsink/fan that came with my E8400. I also have the rig OC'd to 3.6 Ghz. I am interested in purchasing a third party heatsink/fan, but I want to make sure that it will specifically work with this board (space clearing). Does anyone know of any good ones that would work for sure. Price range is no more than $50. I have this one in mind:

  • The safe limit on that CPU is 71 C according to Intels specs, recomend you take it back to normal speed until you get and install the hsk&f. Both are good choices it just depends on whether you want to mess with the different mounting procedures cause you will have to remove the mobo from the case which ever one you choose, the bolt on Xigmatic is a better mounting than the clip on of the Sunbeam. Make sure you clean the old thermal paste off thouroghly and apply the new paste sparingly.
  • Hi both of thous will work and both are good, but if you go with the Sunbeam you don't need to get thermal past as it comes with some very good past, if you go with the Xigmatek you would want to buy some past as it comes with terrible stuff. So Sunbeam is the cheapest rout.
  • Thanks for the response guys. I think Ill go with the sunbeam for the Thermal paste and it was rated higher here: http://www.frostytech.com/top5heatsinks.cfm . Yea Ill take off the OC settings till I get the new Heat Sink.
