Cable Management

For my soon to be first build, I reckon I'd want to try to prevent cluttering of cables to promote good airflow, but how would I go about that exactly?...

look on ebay for cable sheathing, its what good power supplies already have around the wires! if not, Wal-Mart or other stores have wire wraps, its like a tube with a spiral cut all the way around, usually found in the automotive section.

I use rubber bands as well, especially if one came on the psu cables.  I like zip ties, they are easy to use and cheap (really cheap for me as I got hundreds+ for free) so if you need to cut them it is no big deal.

I use zip ties only if im going to attach something permanent, but usually just to keep wires together, then the next thing I use are these.  you can set up a route with them, they are fairly cheap and come in all kinds of sizes.  I used them in the top of the case too to hold up all the excess PSU cables or cable lengths that do not get used.

I favor the velcro wires ties over the plastic zip ties cuz you can user them over again, and they are easily adjusted.

Modular PSU's are also a plus if cable management is a concern.

Yes modular cables very easy to attach and detach the wiring issues, or just use a tied wrap the cables up.

I usually will use some zip ties after hooking everything up if I want to keep it tidy.  Also if you are concerned with airflow and cable clutter go with sata for both the hard drive(s) and optical drive(s).  Also a modular psu will help since you can just not use the power connector cables you won't be using.
